Why live in Franklin?
In 2007, Family Circle named Franklin one of the top ten
towns in the country to raise a family. In 2008, CNN/Money.com placed Franklin,
MA in the 10th best Place to "Live and Launch." In 2011, Bloomberg
Businessweek named Franklin as their “Best Places to Raise Kids.” And according
to NeighborhoodScout.com, Franklin was #1 on the list of the safest cities in
America in January 2013.
Here are some of the reasons for the accolades above:
- Historic charm with a good modern day mix of appealing residential neighborhoods and a healthy commercial and industrial base help keep the town thriving.
- Franklin is a home to the country’s first public library. Did you know that Franklin changed its name from Exeter to Franklin in 1778, in honor of Benjamin Franklin? Benjamin was so impressed that he donated some books to the town and a first public library was born.
- Horace Mann, often regarded as the father of public education, was born in Franklin. Franklin today offers a great school system that gets consistently high marks at GreatSchools.org. New state-of-the-art high school is being built and should open doors to students in 2014.
- You can hike at the Franklin State Forest, swim at Beaver Pond, and play on many town playgrounds and fields. Franklin has a wonderful town recreation program that offers many activities. There are numerous organizations in town covering not only sports such as hockey, soccer, baseball and lacrosse, but also arts, theatre and music. New Sculpture Park is being developed as I write this.
- The town has a desirable location with close proximity to major highways and there are two MBTA commuter rail stops with trains to Boston.
- Although Franklin has over 33,000 residents, you can feel and see a true community spirit here (whether it is decorating downtown for special occasions, building a playground or community gardens).
